It is estimated that FY 2015 justice and public safety (JPS) spending will reach $110 billion. State and local IT spending is on the rise. In FY14, spending was at $2.27 billion and FY15 is estimated at $2.44 billion. This will continue to rise through FY19, with spending at over $3.1 billion.

FirstNet and the nationwide broadband network are moving forward and states will soon need to decide how to develop their network. Other initiatives, like Next Generation 911 (NG911) continue to move ahead, regardless of whether local agencies are ready.

Highlights include:

  • Grant funds are harder to come by, but may still be available with regional projects
  • The further development of FirstNet and state broadband/LTE projects will begin to emerge as large scale initiatives
  • Land mobile radio (LMR) remains on top in terms of project value and remain that way in the foreseeable future
  • Multi-system projects will remain popular, especially among cities and counties
