Q4 is usually a strong performer in the SLED market as many entities are midway through their fiscal year purchasing activity. Accordingly, GovWin IQ’s State and Local Bid Notifications database saw a 19.4% increase in solicitations posted in Q4 2017 vs. Q4 2016. This is about 7 points stronger than Q3 and is the strongest overall quarter of 2017.
Counties led in solicitation gains once again, moving up 61% in Q4 and closing out the year as the overall leader. Other government types also demonstrating impressive growth included independent school districts (+38%), cities (+23%), special districts (+18%), and colleges/universities (+6%)
AEC moved back in the lead, heading up a stout 20% year-over-year and continuing to be a significant market driver. Professional services improved on its performance from Q3, moving up almost 19% compared to Q4 2016. With some quarters in 2017 showing declines for the PS market, this is good news for interested contractors.
IT continues its strong run, moving up 16% year-over-year, which protracts the growth from Q3 and provides some stability to the IT market after some recent tremors. With all three major solicitation categories on the rise for the quarter, contractors should be well-positioned heading into the even stronger Q1 and Q2 for 2018.
