Decoding Top FY 2016 Justice & Public Safety IT Opportunities

Justice Public Safety (JPS) spending is on the rise, with an estimated $6.2 billion being spent in 2015 on top projects including corrections and computer aided dispatch.

FirstNet has taken a while to get off the ground, but appears to be moving forward with a draft RFP estimated to be released by the end of the year. While partly being completed in tandem with the FCC, NENA is also seeking to develop standards for NG911.

Highlights include:

  • S&L budgets have shifted from spending on HS to JPS
  • Emergency Communications will be a balance between the old LMR and the new LTE Broadband
  • Federal spending is down in DOJ and DHS as of May 2013, but will see a boost in largest spending quarter (Q3)
